Here we have a neglected F20C that was bought at auction. After the purchase, misfires and low power levels were observed by the buyer. After performing an initial compression test, and very low compression was identified, a leakdown test was performed, identifying more than 50% leakage on 3 of 4 cylinders. The head was then removed for internal inspection. After finding cracked valve retainers, bent valves, and grossly out-of-spec valve guides, it was decided to source a good, used head. This head was cleaned and installed on the vehicle and a leakdown test performed. Less than 3% leakage was found on all cylinders after the repair was completed.
